The Bihar Staff Selection Commission's 4th Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination, Advertisement No. 05/25, originally carried 1481 posts across six cadres - Assistant Branch Officer (1064, Pay Level-7), Auditor for Cooperative Societies (198, Level-5), Auditor in the Directorate of Audit (125, Level-5), Planning Assistant (88, Level-7), Junior Statistical Assistant (05, Level-7) and Data Entry Operator Grade-C (01, Level-6) - and the Commission states that vacancies are provisional and may be increased up to the closing date. The examination fee is Rs 540 for General, BC and EBC men and Rs 135 for SC, ST, women and candidates with disabilities, but the concessional slabs apply only to permanent residents of Bihar, so applicants from outside the state pay Rs 540 and get no reservation either. Is the BSSC preliminary examination really an open-book test?
Yes. Under Rule 12 of the Commission's 2010 examination rules the preliminary paper is taken with books. A candidate may carry exactly three textbooks, one each for the General Studies, Mathematics and General Science sections, and only NCERT, BSEB, ICSE or other board textbooks count. Guides, photocopies, handwritten notes and electronic devices are barred, books must carry the candidate's name and roll number, and exchanging books in the hall is prohibited.
How many candidates are called for the Main Examination and what does it contain?
Candidates equal to 05 times the category-wise vacancies are shortlisted from the preliminary examination, and the Main Examination is advertised separately. It has two papers: Hindi, which is only qualifying and needs 30 percent for the second paper to be evaluated at all, and the Main paper on General Studies, General Science and Mathematics, and Mental Ability.
What are the minimum qualifying marks?
40 percent for Unreserved, 36.5 percent for BC, 34 percent for EBC, and 32 percent for SC / ST, women and candidates with disabilities. These apply to both the preliminary and the main examination.
What is the age limit and which relaxations apply?
As on 01 August 2025 the minimum is 21 years for every category. The maximum is 37 years (Unreserved men), 40 years (Unreserved women and BC / EBC of both sexes) and 42 years (SC / ST of both sexes). Candidates with disabilities in every category get 10 further years. Bihar government servants get 5 years but are capped at five attempts in total, ex-servicemen get 03 years plus their defence service provided actual age is not above 53, and commissioned officers with at least 5 years continuous service get 5 years. Candidates who were within the maximum age and already qualified as on 01 August 2022 also remain eligible.
Do candidates from outside Bihar get reservation?
No. Reservation on grounds of caste and sex applies only to candidates whose permanent residence is in Bihar, and a permanent residence certificate is required to claim it. The 35 percent horizontal quota for women and the horizontal quota for benchmark-disability candidates are likewise confined to Bihar domiciles.
Which graduation subjects qualify for the Auditor post in the Finance Department?
A graduate degree in any one of Commerce, Economics, Statistics or Mathematics from a recognised university. The Auditor post for Cooperative Societies instead requires graduation with Mathematics, or a Bachelor of Commerce.
