The Staff Selection Commission's Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) Examination 2025 fills two Pay Level-1 posts under the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix, both General Central Service Group C non-gazetted and non-ministerial: MTS across ministries, departments and offices of the Government of India, and Havaldar in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs and the Central Bureau of Narcotics under the Department of Revenue. The only essential qualification is a pass in the Matriculation examination or equivalent from a recognised board as on 01 August 2025, and the age limit on that same date is 18-25 years for MTS and 18-27 years for Havaldar and for a few MTS posts in various departments. MTS candidates sit the Computer Based Examination alone, while Havaldar candidates also take the Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test. The CBE runs as two compulsory 45-minute sessions on the same day, with no negative marking in Session-I and one mark deducted per wrong answer in Session-II, and is set in Hindi, English and 13 regional languages.

Who has to take the SSC MTS / Havaldar PET / PST?
Only Havaldar candidates. For the post of MTS the examination consists of the Computer Based Examination alone; for Havaldar it consists of the CBE plus the Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test.
What is the SSC MTS 2025 exam pattern and how does negative marking work?
The Computer Based Examination runs as two compulsory sessions on the same day. Session-I is Numerical and Mathematical Ability (20 questions, 60 marks) and Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving (20 questions, 60 marks) in 45 minutes. Session-II is General Awareness (25 questions, 75 marks) and English Language and Comprehension (25 questions, 75 marks) in 45 minutes. There is no negative marking in Session-I, but one full mark is deducted for each wrong answer in Session-II.
In which languages is the SSC MTS exam conducted?
In Hindi, English and 13 regional languages: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The regional languages apply to Session-I and to the General Awareness section of Session-II only.
